Does Obama pose a threat to the United States?

In recent days I’ve heard about Freepers and Foxsters trying to make much of the fact that Barack Obama’s middle name is Hussein.  At first I didn’t see the point of caring about this, because I figured that Fox and the Free Republic had already cornered the market on the mouthbreathing vote, and I thought it would just be a matter of time before some professional contrarian took to the pages of the New Republic to chasten progressives for being unduly dismissive of the deeply held, if deeply mistaken, beliefs of Mouthbreather-Americans.  But after hearing this entertaining and deeply dispiriting series of interviews (h/t:  Julia), I wonder whether the right has, for once in its collective life, thought too much about how to demonize the junior senator from Illinois.  For it appears that you don’t have to mention Obama’s middle name to get Americans to associate him with Our Terrorist Enemies!  Just that last name will do.

Note that the final interviewee has a doctorate and is skeptical of Bush.

There is no hope, people, and that is why I urge you to join the We Are All Giant Nuclear Fireball Now Party.  Only the WAAGNFNP has an adequate understanding of our historical moment—and of the threat Obama poses.

  2. As Barack himself might say, we Democrats do not do ourselves any favors by demonizing mouthbreathing Americans as ignorant knuckleheads. We must try harder to understand the points of view of the tragically un and misinformed, and we must present ourselves as a party open to the ideas of the ignorant and non-ignorant alike. Until we present ourselves as a party open to the misinformed and ridiculously obtuse, we will continue to run the risk of alienating those whose mischaracterizations of the world around them lead them to false conslusions about our true ideals and mission.

  4. Freepers and Foxsters

I believe that today’s groovin’ n cool hipster might refer to these entities as Freepists and Foxists.  Just trying to keep the WAAGNFNP fresh.

Personally, I think that Obama’s hiding out in the mountainous regions of Missourastan.  Why we still consider Missourastan to be a partner in our terror war is beside me.

  7. It didn’t sound that dispiriting to me, considering that there were apparently still some people in 2004 who voted for George W. Bush under the impression that he was George H.W. Bush.  At least the people interviewed had enough idea of who Osama Bin Ladin was to confuse Barack Obama with him.  That makes them more well-informed than the bottom 10% or so of the voting-age population, I’d guess.

I expect that Barack will turn this to his advantage, eventually.  Once we lose in Iraq, the same authoritarians who make up the core GOP base will subconsciously want to vote for the dictators who they think have won.  That’s the way that Republicans think.

  8. I am not worried about their making fun of his middle name.  However, when that fails, they will use the power of the unitary executive, with an assist from whatever Heritage fratboy they have put in charge of the CDC, to declare him an Enemy Cootie Vector.  So they can quarantine him, probably somewhere warm and sunny.

  10. Come on, “Barracks O-bomb-a” is a super cool tough guy name, much better than Chuck Norris.  Don’t let anyone tell you different.  In fact, we should go around pronouncing it “Barracks’ll-bomb-ya,” which sounds enough like Sweet Home Alabama and is also Army-meets-Air Force-y enough to help the WAAGNFNP take back the South and finish that 2nd American Revolution everyone’s always talking about but which in retrospect suffered from a lack of postwar planning and will to triumphantly stamp out the dead-enders and the terrorists.

Oh wait, sorry, that was “everyone in American Studies,” which means they should be, like, totally shunned and ignored.  And maybe I’ll-bomb-ya sounds too terrorist-y.  A quick fix like, “I’ll-bomb-ya, Osama” is worse:  too Clinton-y.

Let’s face it, he’s doomed.  Anyway, if he’s smart, he won’t run in 2008.  Let someone else deal with the mess left by the big elephants.

Captcha:  “party52,” as in, if things go as our FL plans, we’ll win all 52 states in ‘08 (even Puerto Rico and Kurdistan).

  11. Ed, I hear what you’re saying, and it’s uncomfortably true; in the interests of not gunning each other down in the streets, one should always keep an open ear regardless of how foul what one hears may be.

It’s really hard though. Actually, it’s easy in person. I’ve had painful conversations with Neo-Nazis, Christians, Nation of Islam folks, Crackheads, lawyers and all nature of antagonistic people, but have been able to generally keep things fairly civil. At the same time, it feels like I’m doing all the work. They call for my death - I tolerate. They demonize me - I tolerate. They lie, deceive, and spread gross mis-information - I tolerate.

All the while, I continue to pay the price of their unreason, and frankly, my patience is wearing thin. For me, there’s a point where someone’s persistent willful ignorance crosses the line between opinion and crime. For example, when someone directly promotes my murder (and many do), they should be compelled to at least apologize and publicly recant or go to jail. Otherwise, I can’t reasonably be expected to obey the law, respect society, or to adhere to any sort of ethical or moral code. Whatever sort of “social contract” I was born into, has been broken. How long can I be expected to suffer behind niceties?

That said, that’s exactly what I do, but it’s not easy, and when the offenders are not being taken to task by my representatives… I really don’t feel represented (of course, I’m Canadian, so Democrats DON’T represent me personally, but you know what I mean).

  13. we Democrats do not do ourselves

Who is this “we” oh Venerable one??? We are WAAGNFNP, not any other party or parties, unless we attend or create parties to celebrate the party.  The Ministry of Defense and Offense takes offense, at this blatant attack on our defenses, and requests that the Minister of Justice immediately investigate the posting of such claims.  We need more show trials!!!

As for the junior Senator’s name:  His first name reads like Baruch, and thus connotes either the great financier or a multitude of orthodox and “extremist” rabbis; his middle name may remind some of Saddam, but then one of our staunchest allies has been Jordan, a country ruled by numerous Hussein’s; and Obama reflects the Saudi princes and potentates, and some of the richest oil families on the planet.  Thus the Senator is the purrfect cross-bred Israeli-Jordanian-Saudi Arabian Middle Eastern polygen, ready to help them all just get along.

  14. Just by way of putting things in perspective, it would be nice to know (a) how the interviewer selected the people he questioned and (b) what proportion of them said something like “Who?” or “You mean the Senator from Illinois?” or “I think they should trade him for a good lefthanded reliever.”

Posted by  on  11/30  at  03:25 PM
  15. Point taken, Spyder. Naturally the WAAGNFNP epitomizes the type of open minded flexibility that the Democratic party should talk about itself thinking about having, if it were going to be around long enough to talk about itself thinking, with respect to the factually challenged. The GNF does not discriminate between sharp and dull tools, and it truly levels the playing field. Long but not too long live the WAAGNFNP!

  17. And Michael, thanks for indirectly explaining where the term “freepers” comes from.

Dr. V - Looking up the term “freeper” was one of the first things I did after I got my computer machine and saw all kinds of words I’d never seen before. It led me to this very handy site which I still keep bookmarked.

The Ministry of Defense and Offense takes offense, at this blatant attack on our defenses, and requests that the Minister of Justice immediately investigate the posting of such claims.

spyder - The Ministry of Justice has noted your concern and is at this time contented that The V.Ed has corrected himself to Our satisfaction (#15).
We applaud, as ever, your vigilance, esp. with V.Ed. He can be a slippery one. We are mindful that a WAAGNFNP Loyalty Oath may be in order for The V. Ed prior to the CCST. Not because We do not trust him, but so he can come to fully know True Love which is the warm, secure embrace of the WAAGNFNP’s Ministry of Justice.

  18. WAAGNFNP MoDaO Intelligence gathering unit has discovered this latest research study, virtually proving that the GNF is absolutely necessary and the sooner the better.

Christopher Lohse, a social work master’s student at Southern Connecticut State University, says he has proven what many progressives have probably suspected for years: a direct link between mental illness and support for President Bush.

…Lohse’s study, backed by SCSU Psychology professor Jaak Rakfeldt and statistician Misty Ginacola, found a correlation between the severity of a person’s psychosis and their preferences for president: The more psychotic the voter, the more likely they were to vote for Bush.

“Our study shows that psychotic patients prefer an authoritative leader,” Lohse says. “If your world is very mixed up, there’s something very comforting about someone telling you, ‘This is how it’s going to be’.”

Tom Tomorrow, notes: “Anyone who’s spent any time reading right wing blogs already understood this to be true.”

  24. Ok, you all scoff at the threat Senator Osama poses, but consider this: he lives in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago. Very close to the site on which the first nuclear chain reaction was conducted, and equally close to Jackson Park, where NORAD is rumored to have once maintained a missile site. So, who’s to say he’s not hiding WMDs? Hmm? Hmm?

  25. So, who’s to say he’s not hiding WMDs? Hmm? Hmm?

Yes, true. But why is that a threat? I see it as a proactive attempt - though probably motivated by cheap politics - to take our concerns into account.

I have resisted as long as I can the fashionable nihilism of the WAAGNFNP, but I am ready to join up, sign any loyalty oath, go door to door, make cold calls into the deep south, whatever it takes. Let’s just end this all now. Maybe Obama has a secret old ICBM there in Hyde Park. Let’s just hope he pushes the button before morning because this whole thing is getting fucking ridiculous.

  32. The We All All Giant Nuclear Fireball Now Party’s Minister of Justice would like to inform BushYouth that we to not take kindly to derogatory remarks based on physical appearance.

In fact, the MoJ’s Chief of Special Projects, 3Tops - pictured below - (so lovely and majestic that her visage is the symbol of the Ministry of Justice) has taken quite unkindly to your remarks. She’s red because you’ve angered her.

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

3Tops says that if we allow disparaging remarks about “funny ears” and “fat”, the next thing will be about horns, and then after that god-knows-what-all. Besides, many of us here in the WAAGNFNP are quite fond of some folks with “funny” ear(s).

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

So 3Tops would like a little one-on-one time with you, BushYouth, to help you better understand WAAGNFNP policies, procedure, and philosophy. Normally you would have to go to her office. But in this case, she is willing to come to you. Listen for the “knock” on the door. (WAAGNFNP-MOJ Disclaimer: We are not responsible for replacing any door that has been “knocked” on by 3Tops).

I cannot possibly resist the captcha--- saw 73.. as in the ongoing never ending sequelization of horror/thriller/mind jumble blood pics.  This edition must include the new savaging of Pastor Warren by fellow leaders who are deeply offended that he had the audacity to invite Barak to speak at his Saddleback Church global AIDS awareness event.  For some, it appears that the demon of Saw is alive and well in the spirit of Obama; he shalt not be given a pulpit from which to spew his ideology-they speaketh.

  36. I bet they are posting - but just not displaying (the comment count is up to 130). I noticed that only the 1st 100 were displaying a couple of weeks ago (right after the upgrade - suspect it is associated with that.) - this is the first 100+ commenter since then.  .. so this is an experiment in “blind posting”.

... and also noted the following in comment #73 in ABF.
(Is that only can see the 1st 100 comments thing still going? ... or is that just old stuff? .. about to find out.)

  38. My guess: it’s somehow connected to the numbers in the captcha words, which have only 2 digits (has anyone ever had “someword00” as captcha?). Very intriguing. The overflow comments must somehow be dumped through those tubes into some alternative internet.

  43. If it helps, I am pretty sure it was associated with the upgrade.

I first noted it (and posted as below) on 11/23 - when I tried to go back and look at the Dr JA thread. I could imagine it being a “feature” that would limit to 100 comments to preserve bandwidth or speed uploading, but then there should be a “Click here for More” button or something similar.

**[technical note: Could only get 1st 100 comments of that thread to appear, even though it shows 190-something, tried a few other 100+ers and also only the first 100 came up - with no place to click for more - most likely some post-upgrade tweaking needed.]

    My credentials:
-I’m a Canadian that loves hockey but can’t skate very well
-My favourite baseball player of all time is Jimmy Key, lefty junkballer extraordinaire
-I’m an environmentalist who enjoys golf
-I only watch the Superbowl hoping for a “catastrophic success”

Of course, more often than not I don’t really give a crap so maybe I’m better suited as Minister of Foreign Affairs.
