We finally have a Democrat in the White House, and guess what happens?  His economic recovery plan runs up against a solid wall of batshit insane Republican opposition and then is left to twist in the wind by some asshole “centrist” Democratic senator from Nebraska.  Damn, I hope this nonsense never happens again.

  2. I wish I could link to my blog post of 1977, in which I marveled at how we finally had a Democrat in the White House, and guess what happened? He didn’t move on any of that justice and equality stuff he talked about during the campaign, because every sensible serious civil centrist in captivity was howling about the need to smack down the DFHs and cultivate “business confidence” instead.

I didn’t have a blog in 1977—but I did have a little red plastic Panasonic tape recorder, and I remember muttering into it something about how we finally had a Democrat in the White House and the Democratic leaders in a Democratic Congress were making sure to undermine this outsider-from-nowhere guy at every turn.

    Then again, I also remember that Jody Powell and Hamilton Jordan were assholes.  But I don’t remember if I recorded that part.
