Still not as important as Monica
From Capitol Hill Blue, via the invaluable Suburban Guerilla:
Witnesses told a federal grand jury President George W. Bush knew about, and took no action to stop, the release of a covert CIA operative’s name to a journalist in an attempt to discredit her husband, a critic of administration policy in Iraq.
Their damning testimony has prompted Bush to contact an outside lawyer for legal advice because evidence increasingly points to his involvement in the leak of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame’s name to syndicated columnist Robert Novak.
In response, White House press secretary Scott McClellan denied the report, saying, “Hang on, let me check my notes-- ah, here it is. The President barely knew Ahmad Chalabi and only met with him for a few seconds. We were never mad at the French-- the French are our friends. No one ever said that Iraq would be a ‘cakewalk.’ The White House did not allege that Iraq had ‘stockpiles’ of weapons of mass destruction. We have never used the word ‘imminent.’ All right, that should do it. Now will you all leave me alone?”
UPDATE: Oh, all right, I know Capitol Hill Blue is an erratic source. And speaking of Monica, I don’t approve of grand jury leaks on principle. But you can’t tell me that Bush’s hiring of a personal attorney isn’t, how shall we say, a potentially prophylactic measure.
A great deal of physical affection, closeness and touching is crucial to Monica’s well-being, and she has a tendency to overindulge in sensual comforts and pleasures.
