Emergency Appendectomy

To all of this blog’s faithful readers:

Michael had an emergency appendectomy yesterday that his wife, Janet, has described to me as “hairy.” So he’s currently in the hospital, prognosis good, but not expecting to be back up on his feet for a while.

I will be out of computer range for the next 2 plus days, but will get back on Sunday night to give you an update on Michael’s condition and continue our communal efforts to get the Democrats’ act together.

  15. Hey, I had one of those appendectomies once...when I was 9. To help pass the time while I was stuck in bed, my family got me the whole set of Aurora movie monster models. It almost made me happy to have almost died from a ruptured appendix.

    I recommend it. It would keep him away from the computer and the papers for at least a little while.

  17. Sounds like Janet should have found a better hospital. Usually internal organs such as the appendix aren’t ‘hairy.’ Perhaps a second opinion would have been in order?

  26. Yup, happened to me at age 9, too.  Had to be evacuated in a single-engine bush plane, from Chefornak, Alaska (population ca. 120) to the tiny hospital in Bethel.  They allowed me nothing but jello and tea for five days post-op; I hope that regimen’s no longer prescribed, Michael.

    Speedy rebounds!  We look forward to your tale of this hirsute ordeal, so hang in there.

  32. They will tell you it takes ten days to really get past the worst of the pain each time you move the tiniest bit (for some reason they never give you enough pain killers).  You won’t believe them.  They will be right!.  Stay down, get rest, let people really help you, and you will be fine. 

    For your sake i look forward to not reading you here online for a few weeks.  Get well, get back in shape, and smile.

  50. Ouch, I had one of those few years ago, At Mt Nittany too.
    I was not impressed with the ER…
    Took a long time to recover. And it is very painful.
    No laptops!!!

    I’ve been told by medical people that once you get past the age of 40, the chances of having problems with your appendix go down like, a thousandfold. So you really beat the odds!
