Indefinite irony hiatus
That nasty pneumonia has landed Jamie in the hospital. He’s doing OK and we hope it’ll be a short stay, but I’ll be otherwise occupied for a while. Feel free to chat among yourselves about any old thing, and send Jamie a good wish if you have a free moment.
Read to him from the blog, that should do it!
Can you recommend a blog-peer for your irony-starved addicts during your hiatus?
Peace, J

Get Well,Jamie.
Get Home soon.
We will get our irony soon.Posted by on 09/28 at 03:53 AMIn all seriousness, very best wishes to Jamie for a speedy recovery. You are in our thoughts.
Posted by on 09/28 at 04:58 AMHoping for a speedy recovery for Jamie. And you take care of yourself, too, Michael--as I’m sure you know, but sometimes it can help to be reminded, caring for sick kids is exhausting, so remember to be easy on yourself too, get as much rest as you can. Don’t worry about us. The blogosphere will take up the slack for you until you return.
Posted by David on 09/28 at 05:43 AMGood luck to Jamie. My best wishes for a quick recovery.
Posted by on 09/28 at 05:53 AM"Compared with Kerry, George W. Bush is a coward. This is not a reference to their respective activities during Vietnam. It refers to the current election campaign. Bush happily benefits from the slime his supporters are spreading but refuses to take responsibility for it or to call point-blank for it to stop. He got away with this when the prime mover was the shadowy Swift boats group. Will he get away with it when the accusers are his own vice president, high officials of his own administration (Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage) and members of Congress from his own party (House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert or Sen. Orrin Hatch)? The answer is yes: Based on recent experience, he probably will get away with it.”

Posted by on 09/28 at 10:46 AMJamie, I hope you feel better soon. Our very best wishes!
Posted by on 09/28 at 12:36 PMThank you all so much for all your kind wishes-- Jamie’s doing well today and wants to come home right now. (We explained to him that we were still concerned about his O-sat levels-- he did a unit on the circulatory and respiratory systems last year in fifth-grade science class-- and not only did he Completely Get It, but he declared that he was “all better” the second his pulse-ox read 96. The kid really doesn’t miss a trick.) But he’ll probably be in one more night so that he can be flooded with antibiotics, and I’m taking a short break to catch up with the day’s business (including all your kind wishes). If you’d like to send him an e-card (bellatrys or anyone else, and thank you so much for the suggestion), his brand new birthday-present email address is .

Posted by on 09/28 at 12:57 PMThought you might appreciate that I went to a town hall style meeting with John Edwards today and he took my question (about getting women’s issues into the White House) and praised me for my passion on the issue. It totally made my day. I also told him that he had great hair (he chuckled).
Of course send Jamie my best wishes, I hope he is home and feeling better soon.Posted by on 09/28 at 07:00 PMJamie has my wishes and prayers for a good recovery soon and then a little rest and peace of mind for his worried family!!
