Second thoughts

The Wizbang Weblog Awards are now final and certified, and as expected, Sadly, No! ran away with its (and my) category, Blogs Roughly As Big as Rhinoceroses.

Sadly No 26.94 % (2240)
Michael Berube Online 15.85 % (1318)
Austin Bay Blog 12.07 % (1004)

Confederate Yankee 7.40 % (615)
Betsy’s Page 7.38 % (614)
Sister Toldjah 4.45 % (370)
Florida Cracker 3.03 % (252)
Speed of Thought 2.96 % (246)
Yourish 2.75 % (229)
Nickie Goomba 2.56 % (213)
Chase me, ladies 2.38 % (198)
Straight White Guy 2.14 % (178)
The American Mind 1.25 % (104)
Ex-Donkey Blog 1.15 % (96)

Congratulations to Seb, Gavin, and Brad for running a clean and honest, if somewhat postmodern, race.  I think it’s a testimony to the soundness of our blogging philosophies that through all our campaign hijinx and japes, we engaged in none of the organized voting fraud that almost marred the General’s exceptionally heterosexual triumph over Scott Adams of Dilbert fame.  Would that Ohio and Florida had voting certification systems as rigorous as Wizbang’s.

I just want to add two things.  One: as first runner-up and most tearful contestant, I stand ready to serve as Mister Best Blog of the Blogs That Inhabit the Two Hundred and Fifty-First through Five Hundredth Positions of the Large Mammal Section of the Truth Laid Bear Ecosystem should Sadly, No!, for whatever reason, prove unable to carry out its duties.  Like, for example, if someone publishes sexually explicit photographs of their blog or something.

Two: never mind all this. The Koufax nominations are open! Last year, as some of you may recall, I managed to squeak into the top four in Best Writing (losing to Digby), the top four among Best New Blogs (losing to Amanda, back when she was Mouse Words), and the top three in the Most Humorous Post competition (losing to The Editors).  Not that I keep track of these things!  This year we’re hoping, like the Rangers, simply to make the playoffs.  So if you’re so inclined, please stop by Wampum and nominate me for something like Best David Horowitz Smackdown Series or Best Post about Jamie, because I’m told there is no Best No-Longer-New Blog category.

Sadly, No!
Digby.
Amanda Marcotte.
The Editors.

I am proud to be the owner of a blog that loses to the blogosphere’s very best.

  1. What about the swimsuit portion of the competition?

  2. What about the swimsuit portion of the competition?

PZ’s got that one locked up.

  3. Ands besides, Michael, isn’t knowing that you’re going to kick my butt all over blogdom on that “Best Writing” thing enough for you?

  4. Ands besides

    Not to mention “Best Editing.”

  5. But “Most Incessant Commenter” is MINE!!!

  6. Yeah, but at least you didn’t garner less votes in the Wizbang “Best Liberal Blog” category than a blog no one has ever heard of! That shame is mine.

  7. While it maybe apparent that both Rox and Chris are lobbying for their own blogs here, and i am certainly going to nominate Chris’s for some of his outstanding written work on there (and yes i do love Rox’s too), i can really congratulate Michael for at least crushing ConYank by a factor of two.  That blog is one of the most vile, disreputable things out there, filled with shaded quote mining and non-subtle innuendo attacking all things liberal.  It is truly a shame that it garnered any votes, all of which should have gone to Berube to enhance his chances.

Maybe if you put back up the Koufax pic it would remind readers to nominate and vote???  I am hoping that after this afternoon’s NCAA volleyball championship game the nation will return to its senses and acknowledge that the game needs to stay out here on the left coast!!  You people back there in the Big Ten and ACC and SEC keep taking our good players and are beginning to make strides.  Fortunately the Pac-10 will survive aided by yet another coups counted upon the braided pony-tail heads of Nebraska.  PennState had a great season though!

  8. Rox, we still heart you (and we voted for you, too).  But hey, at least you were in one of the Big Three—Best Blog, Best Liberal Blog, Best of the Top 250.  Here at me.com, we had to settle for being the runner-up in the Best Supporting Blog competition.

And I’m going to go add to Chris’s nominations for Best Writing—and Most Incessant Commenter.

spyder, I don’t think I can put up any Koufax pic, legally.  I think that privilege is reserved for winners, rather than finalists.  But thanks, all the same. . . .

  9. Oh, I was only nominated by the Conservatives so that they could later point to the contest and say, “See, liberal blogs teh sux.” I didn’t belong it that contest AT ALL. And I’m not just writing it to get the pity vote in the Kofaxers.

  10. I suggest checking out SN’s victory celebration.

  11. Dick, that’s just garish.  Rest assured that this blog will never post pictures of dancing badgers and flying kittens!

Then again, this blog will probably never have occasion to do so.

Posted by Michael  on  12/17  at  02:53 PM
  12. So, Michael, does this mean that we now have statistical evidence that S,N is 170% better than your blog?

Posted by  on  12/17  at  07:35 PM
  13. Within a 10 percent margin of error either way, VKW.  They could be as much as 187 percent better than my blog, or as little as 153 percent better.

It’s got to be the poutine.

  14. I split my vote between the winners, but now I think that this kind of contest could be held in other walks of life as well.

I nominate myself for the Most Handsome Man in American in 100,000,000,000 to 200,000,000,000 category.

  15. Totally off topic but possibly worth the interruption, imho, given the recent NYT news on domestic spying.

  17. Speaking of Koufax, don’t forget to nominate the illustrious Doctor Biobrain for Most Deserving of Wider Recognition.  Not only is he the best blogger out there (as well as the smartest person in the world); but his recognition level is approximately zero.  Who else could be more deserving of such an honor?  Besides, he gave his best to aid MBO against Sadly, No in the Wizbangs; and ingratitude is not becoming of a blogger.

Not that I have anything personal at stake in all this.  I’m just a big fan of the big guy and know that he’ll cry forever if he doesn’t win something.  And we wouldn’t want to see that, would we.  Especially as the best intel available says that he now has nukes, and we sure wouldn’t want anything to happen to those.  And yes, that was a hint.
