Standard practice

image

Now that The Weekly Standard has broken new very old ground by portraying a black politician as a chauffeur, what will the prominent neoconservative magazine do for an encore?

(a) Vernon Jordan as Hillary’s pimp!  Vernon Jordan as Hillary’s pimp!  Come on come on come on!  Kristol has wanted to do this one since ‘98 . . . but now’s even better!!!  Right now!  Make it happen!!!

(b) Special double issue!  Dem a loot dem a shoot dem a wail: Katrina’s “Victims,” One Year Later

(c) Star-studded guest columns by Dinesh D’Souza and David Horowitz about how liberals and other race merchants are the real racists in today’s America!

(d) Extra special jointly-published issue with The New Republic on how liberal bloggers are destroying civility!

(e) Hold the phone.  Hold.  The.  Phone.  Michael, did I hear you say “The Weekly Standard” and “neoconservative”?  Because you know that “neoconservative” is a code word for “Jewish.” Are you suggesting that those people have some “influence” over “American politics”?  Should we be getting you a copy of the Protocols of the Elders of Zion for your birthday?  Because we think this entire question is objectively anti-Semitic.  Now.  What were you asking again?

  1. My my… this entry almost makes me long for your more innocent days as the thoughtless purveyor of “D’Ho.” You should write rap lyrics!

  2. Yes, Buffy, “D’Ho” was a terrible, terrible, terrible slur, and that is why I have banned everyone from using it.

Except The Weekly Standard.  They’re entitled.

  3. Hmm.  Special election issue showing who would win if no black people voted, showing that Democrats would be “a hopeless minority”.

No, that’s not good enough.  Let’s see: a defense of _The Bell Curve_?  No, TNR already did that one.

I’ve got it.  The poster from Birth of a Nation, re-done with GWB on the horse, about to trample a donkey wearing a keffiyeh.

  4. I guess this issue is targeting the George Allen Republicans.

  5. Oh good, I’m glad the ban is still on. I thought I might have to go off my meds again or something. smile

Hey, speaking of rapping about Katrina victims, here’s an interesting ditty that I thought folks might like to check out.

    http://xxlmag.com/online/?p=3575

A colleague posted it full of glowing praise about how this Killer Mike parody of Frank Sinatra’s “That’s Life” raises interesting issues in relation to rap music. I think it raises interesting issues alright--in relation to “facts.” When did Barbara Bush say, “The woman oughta feel at home getting raped in the bathroom in the Superdome?”

Anyhow, I think it’s pretty misogynist, but the online reviews commend it as “the realest song I’ve heard in ages.” Perhaps I am getting too old? Or perhaps I have lost touch with “realness” in our post-postmodern age?

Oh good heavens: captcha word is PERFORM!

  6. In the demented last days of pseudo-conserva-topia, the coded “southern strategy” is going blatant and in-your-face.

Parody can’t keep up with this:
“Congresswoman Maxine Waters had parachuted into Connecticut earlier in the week to campaign against Lieberman because he once expressed reservations about affirmative action, without which she would not have a job that didn’t involve wearing a paper hat.”

Coulter wrote it and she’s proud.  It’s on her own site, which you can find for yourself—no link from me.

Republicans:  Not able to run on their record of incompetence, corruption, and dishonesty, are forced to resort to their last bastion of success as the Party of Hate.

  7. A paper hat!  That’s really funny—at least that’s what they say in The New Republic.

  8. In keeping with the Birth of a Nation theme, an article on the potential new democratic congress entitled Movin’ On Up!. On the cover, Maxine Waters, Charles Rangel and John Conyers swing on chandeliers in the Capitol while off to the side you see Ned Lamont handing out suitcases of cash to stereotypical Middle Eastern terrorists.

  9. Lester Bangs knew the truth! “The Jewish people do not exist. They are a myth created by Hitler to cover up his massacre of six million Jehovah’s Witnesses.”

  10. Maybe their next issue’ll feature Maxine Waters feted with headscarf, screamin’ somethin’ ‘bout birthin’ no babies. She is a baby-killer, you know.

  11. How much do you want to bet that this wins them more votes than it loses? It’s not as if minorities vote substantially Republican. Angry KKKers and Theocons on the other hand might just be willing to make the trip to the polls over such noble sentiments.

  12. Whoa, is that Eleanor Roosevelt holding up the “Lamont” sign?

Posted by  on  08/18  at  11:47 AM
  13. I truly don’t understand where this spate of open racism is coming from.  Unless it is just panic?  It’s true as Frank says that not many minorities vote for Repubs, but then not good ol boys vote for Dems.  And I can’t think the mushy middle is going to find this attractive or appealing.

I hope I am not overestimating the intelligence of the voters again . . .

  14. The Weekly Standard has broken new very old ground by portraying a black politician as a chauffeur

    Oh. No. They. Didn’t.

Excuse me. I think I have to go exfoliate my brain now.

  15. It’s badly drawn, but no more offensive than a photoshopped Lieberman in blackface, and myriad liberal cartoons of Condi Rice.

Al Sharpton should be flattered. Driving Mr. Ned would be honest work compared to what he actually does for a living.

  16. no more offensive than a photoshopped Lieberman in blackface

which, as I recall, made national news and led to numerous denunciations of the unhinged liberal blogosphere.  And no, no liberal has actually suggested that Condi Rice would be wearing a paper hat if not for affirmative action.
