Poem on your blog day!
An adaptation of “poem in your pocket day,” via Liliputian Lilith via Crooked Timber.
Overshadowed by colors
Like the deep
Sea of the dictionary
I experimented with bachelors
Giving them six
Feelings of a pin
Like a butterfly who is pinned
By sunlight colors
Touching on six
Spectrums of deep
Disintegrating hues, the bachelors
Evaded the light into the dictionary
Now in the dictionary the word pin
Bachelors are dancing among colors
Lost in words like the deep six
-- Joseph Lease, “Overshadowed by Colors,” from Human Rights (Zoland Books, 1998)
Joseph’s written longer and less traditional and more moving things than this, but “Overshadowed by Colors” does in fact fit in your pocket. Check out Human Rights and the more recent (2002) My Sister Life. You’ll be glad you did.
