Take the Timken IQ test!

This is a test of your ability to place events in proper chronological sequence.  Place a “1” next to the event that happened first, a “2” next to the event that happened second, and so on.  After you have finished numbering the events, write a brief (200 word) essay on the causal linkages among them.

Good luck!

___ Businessman W. R. Timken becomes a George Bush “Ranger,” having raised at least $200,000 for the Bush campaign.

___ Bush pushes an income tax cut, a dividend tax cut and a small business tax cut, ostensibly to promote “job creation” in the United States.

___ Bush appears at Timken plant in Canton, Ohio, and declares that “the future of employment is bright for the families that work here, that work to put food on the table for their children.”

___ Timken becomes a member of the Employers’ Coalition on Medicare, a group of Bush supporters who lobby for a Medicare “reform” bill that grants employers tax subsidies even if they reduce their retirees’ prescription drug benefits.

___ The Timken Company lays off 1300 workers, one-quarter of its workforce in Canton.

___ Timken begins production on a new manufacturing plant in Shanghai.

Thanks to Judd Legum for keeping score.
